Significance:
Built in 1893 by the Durango Light Company, the Power House is one of Colorado’s earliest mission-style industrial buildings. On the National Register of Historic Places, the plant was the first in the nation to supply AC power to a community.

Since Listing:
The Children’s Museum of Durango reached an agreement with the City of Durango to lease the building. The partnership was able to complete the renovation to create the Children’s Discover Center. State Historical Fund grants were administered to stabilize the exterior and further assistance was provided by the National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program.
