Significance:
Listed on the State Register of Historic Properties, the Union Pacific Railroad roundhouse was established in 1909, and is the only brick-constructed roundhouse in the Union Pacific inventory.

Since Listing:
With the aid of local funding and grants from the Colorado Historical Society's State Historical Fund and a Transportation Enhancement Grant, Lincoln County purchased the surrounding land from the Union Pacific Railroad, and the roundhouse itslef from a private owner and has completed stabilization. The grants will also asisst in helping to build a new roof over six of the eight bays of the roundhouse. Roundhouse Preservation, Inc., a group devoted to helping with the preservation of the roundhouse, is in the process of raising matching funds for these grants.
