This flat rectangular park covers a city block between Illinois and Iowa Streets, south of Main Street. Of two existing water fountains, one of them may be the WPA fountain believed to have existed. There is also a wrought-iron metal gate on the southwest corner of the park that is marked “Stratton Park 1941 MSA Club.”
Historical Background:
The improvements made to the Stratton City Park were a WPA project. The MSA Federated Women’s Club worked to obtain the WPA grant. The federal allocation was for $2,053.42, and the city contributed $683.25, which paid for equipment and materials. The pool, bathhouse and tennis courts were part of an improvement project in 1995.
