Architectural Description:
This rectangular park slopes slightly and has an assortment of deciduous and evergreen trees, some of which may be from the WPA era. The park includes half of a basketball court with possible WPA-era edging, a decorative concrete-block picnic shelter, a simple metal-roof shelter, a concrete picnic table, a volleyball sand pit, and playground equipment.

Historical Background:
The park in Vona was a WPA project. The town of Vona was given a federal grant in 1937 of $20, 402 to “construct municipal playground to be fenced and lighted.” In 1940, the town was given an additional $7,250 to improve the park as well as the town’s water system. The town contributed $872 for the second project, which included “cutting, filling, and surfacing park area and installing electrical facilities.” The concrete-block picnic shelter appears to date to the 1960s. Great Outdoors Colorado, funded by the Colorado Lottery, installed playground equipment around 2000.
