This one-story rectangular garage is constructed of concrete block. On the front elevation the concrete block is rock-faced, while on the sides it is smooth. The same rock-faced blocks appear on the corners of the rear of the building as quoins. The roof is flat and has a stepped parapet. There are double sliding garage doors on the front of the building.
Historical Background:
Historical Background:
The garage was built by the WPA. Federal funds used on the building were $2515, while Sedgwick County provided $493. The WPA application states that the justification for the project was “Present garage facilities at Ovid are inadequate.” Most of the materials used to build the garage were salvaged from the demolition of the original 1904 Sedgwick County Courthouse, which was replaced by another WPA project. Some of the materials reused were cement blocks, roof joists, doors and windows. The garage continues to be owned and used by Sedgwick County today.
