On The Road 2009 itinerary

Friday - September 25, 2009 

1:00 PM- 4:00 PM              Hosted by the Fremont County Heritage Commission and various Fremont County                                           preservation and historical organizations: take a guided tour or go on-your-own to a                                           variety of Fremont County’s natural and historical sites or museums

                                          The Heritage Museums

        • The Royal Gorge Regional Museum and History Center
        • The Dinosaur Depot Museum
        • Museum of Colorado Prisons
        • Florence Pioneer Museum
        • Fremont Center for the Arts

                                          Garden Park Tour - A tour starting at the north end of Garden Park (at the corrals) and                                           heading south with three stops

        • Changing Landscapes of Garden Park
        • Preservation Efforts at the Garden Park School
        • Internationally significant Marsh Felch Dinosaur Quarry

4:00 PM - 7:00 PM              Cañon City State Armory Building, 110 Main St., Cañon City

9:15 AM                             Train Ride on the Royal Gorge Route Railroad

        • See the amazing hanging bridge and the engineering through the gorge
        • Hear about the railroad wars, early movie making, early photography, and famous visitors  

12:00 PM                           The Vintage Harvest Fest at the Holy Cross Abbey Winery

        • Drive yourself to the grounds of the historic Holy Cross Abbey Winery for a free wine tasting and enjoy lunch on the Vintage Harvest Festival

1:30 PM                             The Abbey Bells will sound signaling an opportunity to view the historic Holy Cross                                           Abbey up close and a tour of Abbey!

2:30 PM                             Official End of On the Road 2009, with a thank you from Colorado Preservation, Inc. and                                           the Fremont County Heritage Commission
