THE CASE FOR
PRESERVATION:
Celebrating a History of Preservation
United States of America’s 250th • Colorado’s 150th • National Historic Preservation Act’s 60th

February 11 – 13, 2026
DoubleTree Hotel, Denver
The 2026 Saving Places Conference was a powerful celebration of preservation’s past, present, and future, bringing together preservation professionals, tradespeople, community advocates, students, and partners from across Colorado and beyond for three inspiring days in Denver. Held February 11–13 at the DoubleTree Hotel, this year’s conference centered on the theme “The Case for Preservation,” highlighting both the enduring importance of historic preservation and the energy, ideas, and people shaping its future. The 2026 program also marked three major milestones: the 60th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act, Colorado’s 150th anniversary of statehood, and the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Throughout the conference, attendees engaged with a dynamic program featuring 144 speakers and 53 sessions, including plenaries, tours, and networking events, along with the Endangered Places Luncheon, the Preservation Marketplace, advocacy activities, and opportunities to connect with colleagues old and new. A special highlight of this year’s event was the launch of CPI’s new Preservation Workforce Development Track, which brought fresh energy to conversations about training, mentorship, opportunity, and the future of preservation careers.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of the speakers, sponsors, partners, volunteers, and attendees who helped make this year’s conference such a success. Special appreciation goes to featured speakers including Jeff Greene, Jim Heid, Stephanie Toothman, Jeremy C. Wells, and Sehila Mota Casper, as well as the panel of Colorado’s past and present State Historic Preservation Officers. Their presentations challenged, energized, and inspired attendees while opening meaningful conversations about preservation trades, policy, authenticity, storytelling, community leadership, and the future of the field.
CPI is proud to have hosted a conference that not only celebrated a rich history of preservation, but also looked boldly ahead. From hands-on learning and policy discussions to networking, advocacy, and shared reflection, the 2026 Saving Places Conference reaffirmed that preservation is not only about protecting places—it is about strengthening communities, honoring stories, and building a stronger future together. Thank you to everyone who joined us in Denver and helped make the 2026 Saving Places Conference a memorable and meaningful celebration of preservation.
